Poolcar.la helps groups coordinate rides to events. We collect the least we can to make that work, and we are especially careful with your home location. This page explains what we store, why, and who can see it.
What we collect
- Account: your name and email address (used to sign you in via a magic link).
- Phone number (optional): only if you add it, so a matched carpool can reach you.
- Starting location: the address or starting point you enter when you sign up for an event.
- Event activity: which events you join and your ride preference (driving, riding, flexible).
How we handle your address
This is the part we care about most. When you enter a starting location, we convert it to an approximate neighborhood / ZIP-code centroid and store only that coarse point — never your exact street address. That centroid is what the matching algorithm uses to group nearby riders and drivers. Your precise address is not saved and is never shown to other members.
How your phone number is shared
Your phone number is shared only after you are matched into a carpool, and only with the other members of that car, through an explicit reveal in the app. It is not shown publicly or included in event listings.
Service providers
We share data with a small number of services strictly to run the product:
- Google Maps Places — address autocomplete as you type (in your browser).
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — converts addresses to the coarse centroid described above.
- Mailgun — sends sign-in links and ride notifications to your email.
- Our hosting & database provider — stores your account and event data.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, we don't run third-party ad tracking, and we don't store your exact home address.
Your choices
You can update your phone number or remove it from your profile at any time, and you can cancel a signup to leave an event. To delete your account or request your data, email us at diana@pixelswithin.com.
